Switching to a menstrual cup may seem daunting at first, but it's actually as easy as 1-2-3!
Inserting Your Zero Cup
Firstly, you’ll want to remove all packaging from your Zero Cup.
Ensure that your cup is properly sterilised before the first use (this can be done by boiling in a pan of hot water for 5-7 minutes). Thoroughly wash your hands using soap and water before handling your freshly sterilised Zero Cup.
Once you’ve done this, find a comfortable position (seated, squatting, or with one leg propped up) and relax. This will loosen the muscles in your vagina naturally, making insertion easier.
Practice folding your Zero Cup to decide which fold best suits you. It is easier to insert your cup when it is wet or using a small amount of water-based lubricant.
There are many folds to choose from; with the c-fold and punch-down fold being the two most popular.
Firmly grip your Zero Cup between your thumb and index finger as low down on the cup as possible whilst still keeping it folded. With your other hand, part your labia and guide the folded menstrual cup into your vagina. You should aim the cup towards your tail-bone.
The cup will pop open once fully inserted and will be held in place by your vaginal muscles. Gently twist the base of the cup so that a light suction seal is formed.
Removing Your Zero Cup
Wash your hands with soap and water and then dry them thoroughly with a clean towel. Sit on the toilet or squat, as this will help to naturally shorten the vagina. Use your vaginal muscles to “push down” so that the cup will be easy to reach.
Once you can comfortably reach the bottom of the cup, squeeze the base of the cup to release the suction seal.
Once the seal is released, Zero Cup will easily come away from the vaginal wall. Pinch the base of the cup to help slide it out.
When the base of the cup is almost out, angle your Zero Cup slightly sideways to release half of the rim before angling it the other way to release the other half. This will ensure your Zero Cup remains upright with the fluid contained inside, ready for disposal.
Empty the contents of your Zero Cup into the toilet, rinse the cup thoroughly with water, and reinsert.
